Worship and Choir

Worship at Dixie is fairly traditional but very relaxed. We delight in a mix of traditional hymns, camp songs and contemporary worship music. We like to include many voices in worship and so there are scripture readers of all ages and backgrounds each week.

We project as all hymn and sacred song lyrics onto the front walls of the sanctuary to encourage easy participation by the congregation. Enabling everyone to be a part of the work of worship is important to us.

Communion is celebrated here at Dixie regularly throughout year and anyone who feels called by Christ to come to the table is welcome to partake.

We have special services at Christmas and Easter as well as at other times of the year, please see "Events" for details.

Our volunteer choir is made up of people who love to sing and enjoy a time of fellowship. The choir helps to lead the hymns & songs for worship and prepares an anthem for each week from September to June. Our anthems range from tradional to spirituals to current praise style songs. You do not have to read music, just be ready to sing, all are welcome!

Groups and Activities

Dixie is involved in a variety of programs and activities within the church as well in the broader community.

We are guided by our Mission Statement in all we do as we strive to be:

A welcoming Christian community participating in God's Word and serving all people.

Our mission is to encourage and enhance faith through:

* Learning God's word and doing God's will

* Sharing our faith with the community.

* Becoming the people and persons God would have us be and training for leadership.

* Developing activie participation of our youth.

* Caring for one another in interpersonal relationships.

* Acting as stewards of God-given talens and resources to support and sustain our church.

* Facilitating and participating in Spirit-filled fellowship activities.

Christian Education

CHILDREN:

Our children attend worship with their parents/guardians and then leave the Sanctuary during the service following the Children's Story to attend Sunday School. We use a "One Room Schoolhouse" model combining our program for children from JK to Grade 5.

If children or their families do not wish to participate in Sunday School, children are welcome to stay in worship and participate with the rest of the congregation. We understand that everyone approaches God in their own way.

YOUTH:

Our youth in Grades 6 to 12 are invited to participate in the Youth Class that runs almost every week during the service beginning following the Choir Anthem.

Again, youth are not required to participate and may remain in worship if they so desire.

Youth Group is held regularly to bring together our youth for a time of fun, food, faith and fellowship. Details available from the church.

ADULTS:

We offer Advent and Lenten Bible Studies each year. The Rev. Karen Pozios leads these sessions usually on Wednesday evenings. For more details and to join the group please contact the minister. All are welcome.

From time to time we offer Book Club sessions to explore a topic of interest to the congregation or a popular secular book and examine it in light of our faith.
